Community Involvement

Giving Back

Throughout the years The Office Group and its employees have risen to meet many needs in the community as they arise. You will often see The Office Group as sponsors, donors, and volunteers for local, national, and international projects. We have noted a few highlights below and we encourage anyone who is able to find a cause to support, whether through monetary donation, volunteering of your time, or simply raising awareness. We strive to make a difference in our community!

By doing business with The Office Group, Inc. you participate in all of our efforts to improve and support our community, nation, and world!

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO LATELY?

2014:

  • To spread the joy of Christmas in 2014 we adopted 4 families from our community including one family with 5 special needs adopted children. To date, The Office Group employees have donated over $3,000 to shower our adopted families with gifts and Christmas joy.
  • We supported the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia by wearing jeans to work on Wednesday, September 10th to participate in their annual Miracle Jeans Day. Our office raised and donated $422.00 to the children’s hospital!

2013:

    • To spread the joy of Christmas in 2013 we adopted 4 families from our community. The Office Group employees and management raised over $2,000 to shower our adopted families with gifts and Christmas joy. We enjoyed restoring some classic toys, preparing bundles of goodies, and wrapping presents all to be delivered to families in need on Christmas morning.

  • As a way to support our local customer base, as well as to have some fun bonding time, a team of employees from The Office Group participated in the ASYMCA Mud Run at JEB Little Creek, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Operation Smile

The Office Group, Inc. has donated more than $20,000 in cash donations to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an international medical charity committed to providing safe and effective corrective surgery and postoperative care to children in low income countries that are born with cleft lip or cleft palate. Cleft lip/palate disabilities are fixable but many children across the world die every year when they go unfixed because the issue causes difficulty eating, speaking, hearing, and breathing. We are glad to be able to provide the funding to allow lifesaving surgery to children in need!

Education

Through our support of many educational programs The Office Group, Inc. has donated more than $50,000 and countless hours to education and educational programs. We have made donations to our local school system in the form of money, school supplies, and technology items. We have worked to improve our local community with the donation of our time and money to programs such as The Poquoson Education Foundation, Poquoson Little League, Young Life, and Poquoson After Prom. It is important to us to contribute to our community and ensure that local children have all of the enrichment and support that they need to grow up to be successful citizens.

Community Service

As a small company we are able to share our values and goals on a more personal level than those that belong to a larger organization might be able. We pride ourselves on being familiar faces within the community. You can often see our employees and management giving their time to raise money and awareness for valuable causes or simply helping someone in need. One thing that we share is the motivation to do good in the community and do good for others in need. Although we have been blessed to be able to give financially to our most significant causes, we also know the value of showing up and giving of our time.

Frequently, you will see The Poquoson Education Foundation or After Prom Committee meeting in our conference room after hours. Our President, Gail Wojciechowski and Controller, Debbie Pummell are highly involved in these organizations, in addition to many others including the Poquoson Woman’s Club. We are proud of all of our employees’ contributions to the community and to the various charities they choose to support. You will rarely see our management team spending time on themselves because they thrive so incredibly on service to others and to the community. If there is something that is happening or needs to happen in our town they are there and they know about it, and they are probably leading the effort in one capacity or another.

Our employees frequently rise to the occasion to care for someone in need, whether it is through providing meals to someone going through a hard time, gathering gifts to create a magical Christmas for a stranger, helping someone to replace their lost home, or simply wearing jeans to work to support a local Children’s Hospital. We are proud to consider community service and giving to be a central part of our mission as individuals and as a company.
